Practicum:Create a costume for the character of the Madwoman in Jean Giraudoux's play- The Madwoman of Chaillot.
Interpret this character costume on yourself using any materials available to you. Each week we focus on a different part of the Madwoman's costume that includes an1885 dress with a large bustle and train.
Costume should have an asymmetrical balance to help emphasize her off kilter personality.
Weekly progression of Madwoman costume design:
-
Gather materials you would like to work with. Remember you are telling a story and your materials are the language you use to tell the story.
-
Hat like Marie Antoinette.
-
Bustle structure.
-
Bustle cover and under skirt.
-
Bodice.
-
Accessories and embellishments: tassels, fringes, cords, rosettes, ruffles, lorgnette, cameo.
-
Final gathering of class in completed costume.
